Dustbusting
iO Film uses three different systems to ensure that the final digital negative is free of dirt defects.
First, all negative is sonic cleaned after line-up and before scanning.
Second, a proprietary "digital wetgate" is used on the scanners which detects physical pieces of dirt on the negative, and
digitally removes those defects during the scanning process.
Third, all scans are viewed in an MTI Correct workstation, where any remaining dirt elements are removed by an artist.
Key to the entire dustbusting process is the protection of the original camera negative during all stages of production and
post-production. The more the negative is handled, the more dirt it will accumulate. Care should be taken during the dailies
telecine process and during negative assembly.
